Board dismisses one parking ticket and approves $258 reimbursement after BMV error

The Board of Works considered two parking ticket appeals on Aug. 4. In the first case staff verified the resident had followed posted signs while concrete work occurred; assistant chief recommended dismissal and the board agreed.

The second appeal grew out of an administrative error: a resident's license had been suspended in the state's system because a contractor (the BMV third‑party) failed to record insurance proof after an August 2025 crash. Although the resident provided proof and the deputy prosecuting attorney dismissed the earlier case, the state record still showed suspension in June 2026; police officers issued a summons and the vehicle was towed. Assistant Chief presented a phone recording in which the contractor acknowledged fault. The board voted to reimburse the resident $258 for city fees and directed staff to pursue reimbursement from the BMV or responsible party as appropriate.

Board members praised the assistant chief for the detailed documentation and asked staff to identify whether city appropriations are needed to process similar reimbursements in the future.
