The LCA vice president reported that, with nonprofit fiscal sponsorship, the community secured a $500,000 county grant to create a safety access route reconnecting Leilani Estates to Oheke Road.
"The county gave me the grant," the vice president said, describing a plan to start work in March and complete the community'funded portion within 18 months so it will be ready before Boiki Road (Po'ohiki) is reopened; the vice president said roughly 2,500'3,000 feet of roadway will be restored. The speaker credited community organizers and contractors who helped with route research and volunteer efforts.
The vice president also noted ongoing recovery funding the county has provided across multiple phases and mentioned a neighborhood-watch capital grant of about $425,000 to support additional improvements. Attendees asked for clarifications about the route and timeline; the vice president named collaborators (Ron, Chris, Ikayka Marzo) and emphasized public-works coordination was necessary for final alignment and approvals.
Board members said the project is intended to improve safety access for residents still affected by the 2018 eruption and to restore local connectivity to coastal access. The vice president urged continued volunteer support while the association and county finalize scheduling and technical plans.
