Trustees accept donation of "Man in the Mountain" photograph for library display

Chichester Town Library trustees voted to accept a donation of a framed photograph of the Old Man in the Mountain during their April 11, 2026 meeting. The photograph, offered by Udo Rauter, measures about 2ft by 3ft and was taken on April 10, 2003 — roughly one month before the formation collapsed. Tom Downey moved to accept the picture and Barb Sweet seconded; the motion passed with the board indicating "All in favor."

Trustees recommended that Rauter consult the Trustees of the Trust Fund about donation terms and display logistics. The board discussed placing the photograph in the upstairs reading room, creating a plaque (with wording to be provided by Barb Sweet), notifying the state library and New Hampshire Library Association, and scheduling a social-media post and newsletter item in May. Director Caroline Pynes was asked to obtain plaque quotes from Crown Trophy in Hookset, and the trustees plan to send a thank-you card to Rauter.
