Palatine council honors a cohort of Eagle Scouts for community projects

The Village of Palatine recognized multiple scouts awarded the rank of Eagle Scout during its Jan. 4 council meeting, highlighting volunteer projects completed across the community.

The council gathered several Eagle Scouts and their scoutmasters so each scout could briefly describe his project. Projects included refurbishing 15 wooden benches that served a local paddock; renovating a gym at the Palatine Opportunity Center (John Carver); renovating a classroom at the Palatine Opportunity Center (Mateo Diaz); creating an after‑school study area for underprivileged children (Elias Pagonis); renovating an apartment for the Kirk School (Justin Klein); installing garden beds at the Vogle (Vogel?) teen center (Ben Ruthkowski); and constructing a limestone walkway and raised garden beds for a disability‑access project (speaker identified as Perry Cristopolis).

"The rank of Eagle Scout is the highest honor a boy scout can obtain," the chair told the room, and the council offered certificates and public thanks. "The village of Palatine is incredibly proud of you," the chair said, urging family and neighbors to recognize the scouts' contributions. Several scouts spoke in one‑ or two‑sentence summaries of their projects while scoutmasters introduced them.

The recognitions were purely ceremonial; no formal council action was required. The council invited the scouts to remain for the rest of the meeting.
