Valley View ISD board approves Optional Flexible School Day Program for 2026–27

The Valley View ISD Board of Trustees voted to adopt the Optional Flexible School Day Program (OFSDP) for the 2026–27 school year on May 25. The public hearing held the same night drew no public commenters; the motion to approve the program, made by Board President Claudia Coronado and seconded by Marisol Peña, passed 4‑0 with three trustees absent.

Sandra Riojas, Data Management & Assessment Director, presented the proposal to the board. Trustees asked whether the OFSDP would be part of summer school; Interim Superintendent Dr. Monica Luna said administrators are "trying to add to it but for now it’s only part of the regular school year." The board voted on the program as presented and approved it on a 4‑0 vote (Claudia Coronado: For; Efrain Perez: For; Mario Degollado: For; Marisol Peña: For; Juan Viveros, Omar Garcia, Jaime Gaona: Absent).

The approval authorizes the district to offer OFSDP in 2026–27 under the parameters presented by administration. The board did not expand the program to summer school at this meeting; administrators indicated any expansion would require additional planning and likely future board action.
