Council approves $176,479.84 contract for Fire Station 54 parking rehab

Councilmember Nelson moved to authorize the city manager to execute a construction contract with Toasted Asphalt for RFB 204 for parking‑lot rehabilitation at Fire Station 54 in the amount of $176,479.84 and to appropriate general‑fund monies to cover increased costs; the motion passed 5–0.

Nelson questioned why the project’s scope and cost had not been updated since 2022; staff explained turnover, prioritized projects and a reinspection of the site led to a revised scope. Staff said high‑turn areas where fire trucks make repeated 90‑degree turns will be concrete to increase longevity, while lower‑stress areas will use micro‑surfacing, and that the difference between asphalt and concrete options was roughly $40,000.

Council voted to award the contract on the consent calendar. The action restores anticipated functionality and is intended to extend the pavement life to several decades in high‑use areas.
