Officials identify conservancy‑tax omission affecting about 84 parcels; staff to correct without seeking back pay

A commissioner raised an ongoing issue in which a conservancy portion of tax was not applied to a set of parcels after a software change around 2010–11. The Auditor (S3) said staff, working with technology, has identified affected parcels (approximately 84) and that the county intends to correct the tax application going forward rather than seeking back pay.

The Auditor said staff will involve the county's legal office and brief commissioners before making changes. He also noted that the Department of Natural Resources recently explained conservancy purposes — levees, ditches and flood protection — and that maintaining those systems remains important for a river town vulnerable to flooding.
