Commission approves Maple Street change order to include new Kansas statute language

City staff presented and the commission approved a five-page contract change order to incorporate provisions from recently enacted Kansas law and a state administrative form into the city's standard construction contract for the Maple Street restoration project.

City Manager Regina Goff said the change order reflects statutory language that now codifies many of the venue, choice-of-law and mandatory-arbitration protections the city had previously included in its addendum. "It has now become codified in the statutes," she said, noting the statute went into effect after the contracts were drafted. Staff told the commission the grant that covers the project pays roughly 80% of the restoration costs, leaving an estimated 20% local share.

Commissioner (speaker 4) moved to approve the change order and the motion passed by voice vote. Staff noted the change order is intended to protect smaller cities that may lack dedicated legal counsel by aligning local contracts with state requirements. The agreement will be signed by authorized staff following approval.
