Commission approves Axon in-car camera subscription for two patrol units

Chief of Police Ken Wright asked the commission to approve a subscription and equipment package from Axon to outfit two new patrol vehicles. Wright said the agency's current WatchGuard dash system is no longer supported and that Axon syncs dash, body and Taser data, which will make downloads and evidentiary review simpler for prosecutors and court clerks.

Wright gave a cost figure: "The cost of those is $25,218," and staff offered a five-year installment plan that would amount to about $5,043.60 per year for both vehicles. Commissioners discussed the recurring budget implications for dues and subscriptions and noted the 2028 budget will need to account for ongoing subscription costs. Commissioner (speaker 8) moved to approve the Axon purchase and subscription; the motion carried on a voice vote.
