Planning Commission chair urges code modernization to reduce routine waivers

Matthew Popek, chair of the Upper Merion Township Planning Commission, thanked the Board for advancing the Comprehensive Plan and raised specific code modernization concerns tied to recent applications. Popek said some code requirements are outdated and prompt applicants to request waivers; he told the Board that "showing feature within 200 feet of the property line is a relic of 1980 plans" and asked that staff and supervisors consider targeted updates to minimize routine waiver requests.

Popek also said he had discussed these small code updates with the township engineer and planning staff and urged the Board not to overlook such changes as the Comprehensive Plan advances. The Board voted to adjourn the workshop without other formal actions at 7:56 p.m.; Supervisor Greg Philips moved to adjourn and Supervisor Bill Jenaway seconded, with all voting "Aye."
