Yreka rolls out rubberized chip-seal pilot in northwest quadrant; uses Measure C and SB1 funds

Matthew Bray, Yreka's public works director, told the council the city is converting its Measure C-funded chip seal work to a rubberized chip this year as a pilot. "We're converting that into a rubberized chip this year, so it's a different style of chip seal that goes down. It should last us longer," Bray said, adding crews have been prepping streets in the northwest quadrant for about a year.

Bray confirmed the work will be funded with Measure C and SB1 RMRA gas-tax funds and said there are bid alternates to extend coverage as budget allows. He also told council the city does not currently own a striping truck and contracts striping to the county; until the county can provide the crew the city will use temporary 'share the road' signage and consider purchasing a striper in next year's budget.
