Lake Alfred resident urges city to press TECO over billing, franchise fees

Herb Nick, a Lake Alfred resident, took the public‑comment period to criticize digital electric meters and the current presentation of franchise and municipal utility fees on utility bills.

"I'd like to see these listed as Lake Alfred taxes on the bill," Nick said, arguing that the bill does not clearly show which fees are remitted to the city and urging the commission to press TECO for changes and consider reducing the city portion by 50%. He also raised broader concerns about company profits and the way storm and upgrade costs are recouped on customer bills.

Commissioners thanked Nick for raising the issue and staff said they would review the matter; there was no formal motion or directive to change billing or franchise fee policy during the meeting.
