School facilities survey lists $636 million of needs over 10 years; Board acknowledges report

Aaron Errickson, Director of Facility Services for Pitt County Schools, presented the state‑required 2026–27 Department of Public Instruction Facility Needs Survey. Errickson emphasized the submission is an assessment—not a funding commitment—and listed a range of capital needs across the district, including HVAC renovations, chiller replacement at Hope Middle, demolition of aging wings at Belvoir Elementary, and classroom additions tied to a potential megasite. He said the ten‑year estimated cost of the projects is $636 million.

Commissioners asked clarifying questions about building ages and how charter enrollment affects funding flows. Commissioner Rochelle Brown asked about construction dates for Wintergreen schools; Errickson confirmed Wintergreen Intermediate was built in 1984 and Wintergreen Primary in 1997. Commissioner Mary Perkins‑Williams asked whether funding tied to charter students follows the student mid‑year; Errickson said funding starts where a child begins the school year and only moves at reenrollment. The Board voted unanimously to receive the report and authorize the chairman to sign the required certification for submission to the State Board of Education.
