District facilities staff told the board Aug. 4 that athletic upgrades completed over the summer include turf installation at all five high schools and athletic lighting upgrades.
"All five high schools have the turf complete, and the athletic lighting is complete," Executive Director Doug Carey said, noting the combined effect will improve the game-day experience and practice conditions.
Carey added that three of four newly constructed multipurpose athletic buildings had certificates of occupancy as of the morning and the fourth was expected by Wednesday after fire-inspection items are resolved. He said auditorium sound systems are "well underway" and usable in schools but not yet at a level to support full theatrical productions until final contractor work is completed.
Board members asked whether additional sport lines (lacrosse, flag football) could be added to turf; Carey said lines can be stitched in at manufacture time or added later at cost and that schools' athletic directors helped define initial field markings.
