Westfir council schedules work session to investigate alleged riverbank herbicide use

Mayor opened a citizen complaint item about alleged unauthorized herbicide application on a riverside strip and said the submission was well documented. Councilors agreed they did not yet have sufficient information to represent the city’s position and should gather more facts before acting.

Councilor (speaker 2) asked whether the state’s Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) needed to be informed. Nicole Trenton, the city recorder, said staff would contact a DEQ contact and determine whether notification was required. The council asked that complainant-supplied measurements and photos be collected; one councilor volunteered to inspect the site and collect photos and measurements before the work session. As Mayor put it during the meeting: "So is everybody in consensus Yeah."
