Council weighs Farmers Co‑op logo and plaque options for rehabilitated grain silo

City engineering staff presented options for adding a Farmers Co‑op logo to a city-owned, recently rehabilitated grain silo in the Rose District.

Charlie Bright, director of engineering and construction, said staff has mock-ups and renderings but no formal recommendation; the city could place the logo high on the tower (estimated equipment rental and installation near $30,000) or install a lower ground-level plaque or masonry treatment (roughly $10,000). "If we do it lower and closer to the ground, we're probably in, like, the $10,000 range," Bright said, while adding that a higher installation would be costlier.

Former councilor and community members urged honoring the site's agricultural history and indicated a plaque with explanatory language would allow visitors to read the story at eye level. Council discussion centered on balancing skyline aesthetics, historical recognition, and cost; staff agreed to draft visual options and language and return with sketches for council review.

Council asked that staff include proposed plaque wording and consider input from past employees and local historians before finalizing the design or contract change order.
