Council approves $4.78 million low-bid award for Aspen intersection widening project

Public works staff recommended award of the Aspen widening project, part of the 2018 bond package, to the apparent low bidder Cherokee Bridal. Travis (speaker 16) reported six bids were opened and the low base bid totaled $4,781,011.15. Staff noted the engineer's earlier estimate had been considerably higher and that the second- and third-lowest bids were relatively close to the apparent low bidder, factors that supported confidence in awarding to Cherokee Bridal.

Council moved and approved the award by roll call. Staff said they will wait to start work until currently wrapping intersections are completed so the project phases sequence appropriately.

Councilors asked whether work could begin immediately; staff said start would follow completion of related intersection work and project sequencing planning.
