Resident urges action after speeding and lack of sidewalks on 1000 N

Jesica Sims addressed the council on July 21 about safety concerns on 1000 N, saying the roadway lacks sidewalks and poses elevated risks to children and other pedestrians. Sims urged the council to consider measures to make the corridor safer for people walking near the road.

Council members said the route's speed limit had previously been reduced from 45 mph to 25 mph—the lowest permitted speed—and discussed applying signs to alert drivers to children in the area. Councilors also emphasized parent supervision and encouraged residents to continue reporting unsafe driving to law enforcement so enforcement resources can be deployed.
