Superintendent outlines phased reopening; PreK–8 planned for Jan. 19, high school tentative for February

Superintendent Ingrid Colvard updated the Stevenson-Carson School District Board of Directors on Jan. 14, 2021, saying the district aims to reopen in-person learning for PreK through 8th-grade students on Jan. 19, 2021 while maintaining an option for families to remain in fully remote instruction for the 2020–2021 school year. Colvard said county health officials characterize local transmission as "very high" but were cautiously optimistic that cases were leveling off, and that those conditions guided the proposed timeline.

Colvard also told the board that a semester-two reopening for high-school students in the SHS building is being considered for February and is supported by health officials in concept, but that staffing considerations could delay or modify those plans. The board did not take a formal vote on a reopening timeline at the meeting; Colvard indicated staff will return with updates on personnel capacity and operational details before any final change in status.
