North Canaan voters reject LOCIP funding to relocate dog park; 65–46 on paper ballot

Electors considered authorizing Local Capital Improvement Program (LOCIP) funds to relocate the town dog park at an approximate cost of $6,800. First Selectman Jesse Bunce presented four potential relocation areas and emphasized that the vote authorized funding only, not the selection of the final site. Residents raised concerns about use of limited funds for the dog park rather than other priorities such as the town pool or Recreation Commission, possible loss of fields for softball leagues, increased vehicle traffic on Foote Avenue, and seasonal wetness at the proposed site.

Because the moderator could not determine the result of a voice vote, Brian Allyn moved to decide Items 6A and 6B by official paper ballot. Town Clerk Krystian Segalla and Registrars Rosemary Keilty and Patricia Keilty counted 113 ballots (two counts matched). Results for Item 6A were: Yes 46, No 65, Blank 2; the motion to authorize LOCIP funds to relocate the dog park failed.
