NKU building needs HVAC, roof and wiring; final costs hinge on bids and inflation

Mary Paula Schuh, Senior Director of Planning, Design and Construction at Northern KY University, told the subcommittee the selected building is "in excellent structural condition, but it needed a new HVAC system, electrical wiring, a new roof, windows, etc."

Speakers said the university's $3.7 million contribution will help but that final project costs will not be known until the state moves to bid the work. Chris Calvert, NKU's chief financial officer, cautioned that "inflation and cost of construction and equipment would also have an impact," signaling potential upward pressure on estimates. The subcommittee requested a complete project timeline and further cost breakdowns in future testimony.
