Town clerk flags low independent turnout; Paradise Valley primary turnout about 37%

Town staff presented turnout statistics for the July 21 primary and drew attention to very low participation by independent (non‑party) registered voters in Paradise Valley.

Duncan Miller said the town saw "about 37% turnout in this election," adding a chart over 36 years and a note that "we have 3,184 non party registered voters in Paradise Valley, and only 22 of them voted." Miller described the separate in-person signature verification process some early voters used and noted countywide adoption of the process.

Council Member Leitman asked a clarifying question about whether the 22 voters were independents who completed the extra step to request a partisan ballot; Miller confirmed that independent voters must request a particular ballot and that relatively few did so in this contest. Council members acknowledged the number as an area for potential outreach ahead of future elections.

Council did not take policy action on outreach at the meeting; the item was informational and the council moved to certify the election immediately afterward.
