Staff proposes funding for bike and pedestrian infrastructure near park projects

City staff proposed adding a specific connectivity provision to Playbook OP that would "allocate funding for associated bike walk infrastructure in the vicinity of planned park improvement projects." Council members responded favorably to the idea of having designers or landscape architects include connectivity deliverables with park projects so that options and costs are visible earlier in the process. One member asked staff to clarify what "vicinity" would mean in practice and how park project budgets might be affected; staff said those effects would need to be explored and returned for direction.

"If that language is recommended, this is where that would be incorporated," Tobin said while showing the draft insertion. Several council members called the addition a useful directional commitment that could help secure connections as projects move into design.
