Commissioners approve month‑to‑month lease to give transit agency temporary space

The Morrow County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 3 authorized a month‑to‑month lease between the Carrington Lincoln Schools Board of Education in Morrow County and Raleigh Sunny Area Transit, and approved allowing the chairman to sign the agreement.

Clerk (speaker 2) read the lease item and the board moved and approved it as presented. Later in the meeting staff (speaker 3) explained that MCAT — the county transit operation referenced in discussion — wishes to use available office space in the county’s Community Service building while its new facility is built. Staff said the transit agency is looking to cover two small costs to make the move workable: a door to create a private director’s office and a key‑fob on Door B. "MCAT's wishes are to utilize that space, so they don't have to pay the monthly lease to Gardington," staff said, and staff said MCAT is looking into funding the small improvements so the county would not bear the immediate cost.

The board approved the month‑to‑month arrangement; no final decision on who will pay moving costs was recorded. Staff said additional coordination with the director and facilities staff is expected before a full move occurs.
