Day care for new Black & Veatch headquarters remains conditional, company says

During Q&A, committee members pressed staff and the Black & Veatch team on whether an on‑site day care would be delivered as part of Phase 1. Todd noted the development agreement currently treats the day care obligation as contingent and that staff hopes the contingency language will be removed before the Sept. 28 council packet if Black & Veatch's board endorses the plan.

A Black & Veatch representative told the committee the company has not historically operated a day care and is conducting an external study before committing. "We have not had a day care at Black and Veatch in our hundred and 10 plus year history," the representative said, adding they expect a final report imminently and hope a board decision will follow before Sept. 28. Committee members said an affirmative, not contingent, commitment would be preferable but acknowledged the company and city need time to finalize terms.
