Boat-launch parking and undersized culverts draw urgent pleas from Blaise Lake residents

Residents and local association leaders flagged boat-launch safety, parking and drainage as immediate concerns.

"We did an emergency fix on it, and we went to DOT," said Jennifer McCord, who identified herself as president of the Blaise Lake Association, describing a 2021 overtopping that washed out a ramp and left pavement unrepaired. McCord said the association estimates roughly $50,000 in previous emergency repairs and that an undersized culvert still threatens the ramp when storm events occur.

Speakers also described cars and trailers parking close to guardrails near boat launches, limiting maneuvering room and creating safety conflicts with high-speed traffic. Residents suggested a turning lane at the launch and asked whether state right-of-way widths (shown on cross-sections as 25–100 feet) could be used to provide parking and safer turning space; the presenter said specific right-of-way widths at the launch must be verified.
