The Sun Valley City Council on June 16 authorized Mayor Peter Hendricks to sign a contract with Cox Communications for an Elkhorn Station fiber installation, approving a $20,750 one-time payment and $405 per month for 60 months.
City Administrator Femling told the council the procurement process had been "frustrating" but recommended moving forward with Cox. Fire Chief Robrahn said "it's quite slow at Elkhorn," adding that when residents are home at night their use reduces available bandwidth for emergency radios and VOIP phones. Council President Michelle Griffith moved to approve the contract; Council Member Jane Conard seconded the motion, which passed on a 4-0 roll call vote.
Council and staff discussed operational impacts and short-term needs tied to communications reliability. The contract was approved as part of the special meeting's action items; the council did not attach further conditions to the authorization.
