Police Chief Crawford presented the Sun Valley Police Department's proposed FY2021 budget during the council's June 16 work session. Crawford said he was "pleased with what they've come up with," highlighted reductions in travel and training expenses, and described short-term goals that include increased patrols on the city's path system.
Crawford told the council the department needs to replace one of its patrol vehicles, which is "about 6 years old," and the group discussed adding a COVID-related line item to partially offset reduced overtime. Council Member Keith Saks congratulated the chief on the patrol goal and questioned several short-term objectives; Mayor Hendricks asked about key metrics and asked that the city increase sensitivity training. The council also discussed establishing a statement of purpose for donations and possible expenditure categories.
