Street superintendent asks for part-time hire and a striping machine to reduce contracting

Street Superintendent Whitesell told the council that because the city added another road he is requesting another part-time employee to help maintain the expanded network. Whitesell also said he will investigate purchasing a striping machine so staff can perform striping in-house and reduce contracted services.

Whitesell said he would ask employees to take on other duties to limit outsourcing; the council did not authorize a hire at the special meeting but directed staff to return with cost estimates and implementation plans.
