Library presenter cites 5,617 cardholders, reads trustee resignation; board asked to recruit replacements

The presenter for the Bighorn County Library reported that the system has 5,617 cardholders and highlighted a busy summer reading program that draws about 75 children each week and includes participation from day cares, summer schools and reservation communities. "I have given you a submission of our current card holders, which is 5,617," the presenter said during the update.

The presenter described a successful first children’s book club, recurring STEM and art‑therapy offerings, upcoming fundraisers and story readings at the farmers market by children’s librarian Brandy Thompson. The presenter read a resignation letter from trustee Rhonda Johnson, who wrote that she is relocating to Billings for work and will be ineligible to remain on the Bighorn County Library Board of Trustees. The presenter asked the commission to approve outreach to solicit applicants to fill two trustee vacancies and said the board currently has just enough trustees to approve routine bills only if one member attends reliably.

The presenter said staff are preparing a capital improvement plan and that boiler work is awaiting inspection; the presenter also said the fall guidebook and next season’s program schedule will be distributed to advertise events and trustee recruitment.
