County lays out Fort Smith, VanZandt and Cemetery Road paving sequence and dust‑control options

Roads staff told commissioners they will begin work on 1st Avenue in Fort Smith and proposed a sequence to keep crew rotation efficient: haul chips and dust‑control product to a local yard, dust‑treat Fort Smith and the Cemetery Road section, then perform double‑shot chip seals on VanZandt and Center Road as schedules permit. "A lot of people are asking, wanting some type of dust control," the roads presenter said when raising the cost‑share and product choices (polymer, chloride or water).

Commissioners discussed spot removal and replacement of a 3‑inch asphalt section in front of a shop on Cemetery Road, whether to do overlays vs. chip seal on specific stretches, and use of county crews to haul chips from Billings to reduce contractor expense. Staff also noted supply needs (rhinosnot, dust pod) and plans for coordinating Fort Smith, Hardin and Lodge Grass work to maintain rotation and equipment availability.
