Division outlines hiring, mechanized crew, safety courses and outreach for OHV season

Wade Allinson, OHV Program Manager, outlined several operational actions the Division will take this season. The program is hiring a seasonal worker to read trail counters on the Paiute ATV Trail and will base a mechanized trail crew in Richfield to repair fire-damaged trails on Monroe Mountain, the Arapene and Paiute systems.

Allinson said in-person side-by-side and motorcycle safety training courses are under development and that a live course in Carbon County will provide full-face helmets to participants. He also announced a public educational campaign launching in March and April to clarify that some unregistered e-motorcycles (for example, "Sur-rons") are subject to OHV laws even when operated on city pavement. The Division is coordinating a 20-person Forest Service chainsaw certification class called "Thinking Sawyer."
