Ainsworth board endorses NASB self-assessment and sets advocacy-focused goal

At its Aug. 3 self-assessment work session, the Ainsworth Community Schools Board of Education reviewed materials from the Nebraska Association of School Boards (NASB) and characterized the self-assessment as "positive and valuable," singling out advocacy as the area to develop into a formal goal.

The board proposed a goal described in the minutes as: "The board advocates for children, public education, learning, and equity to support improved student outcomes for all students." The minutes list subpoints for the goal: appoint an advocacy committee to facilitate communication; support and promote administrative and board initiatives that advance the strategic plan; work with administrators and staff to enhance communication platforms used to reach patrons; and engage all board members in promoting and communicating the strategic plan.

The minutes do not record a formal roll-call vote on the goal; the committee was subsequently formed and volunteers were recorded. Superintendent Dale Hafer was asked to contact NASB staff for partnership and support to implement the advocacy work.
