Committee places long‑running gas station special-use on consent agenda

The Police Policy & Code Services Committee considered a petition to grant a special use for a gas station and convenience mart at 850 East Northwest Highway and placed the item on the evening consent agenda after staff and the petitioner described planned improvements.

Staff said the property historically operated as a gas station and that the original special use dated to the 1970s; the property had ceased operations for under a year and per code became nonconforming, requiring a special-use reapproval. Staff told the committee the petitioner will restripe the parking lot and add landscaping as required. “I think its original special use was approved in the seventies,” staff said on the record, and the Zoning Board of Appeals had unanimously recommended approval. The committee voted and the item was reported to the consent agenda for council action.
