Council committee backs limiting motorized lawn-equipment hours to 9 p.m.

The administration, technology and community health committee voted to place an ordinance on the council consent agenda that would amend section 12-39 to limit the hours for motorized lawn equipment, such as mowers and trimmers, to 9:00 p.m.

A staff member told the committee the change responds to a resident complaint and local benchmarking. "We felt 9PM would be about the limits we would wanna go that would allow somebody to still get it done if they got home late, but not go past 09:00," the staff member said. The staff member added there would be an exemption for snow-removal equipment and suggested the village monitor complaints after the season and revisit the rule if necessary.

The committee chair indicated the proposal would be placed on the council consent agenda for formal approval. If adopted as written, the change would not affect snow-blower operations and would specifically apply to mowing, trimming and similar landscape work.
