Infrastructure staff told the committee two staircases at the south end of the Gateway Center parking structure have settled and the railings at the southwest train-station entry are separating. Staff recommended removing and replacing the stairs and undertaking adjacent pavement reconstruction.
"So we're recommending a word of contract with Continental Construction Company… So the total project cost not to exceed $92,000 with Continental Construction Company of Evanston, Illinois," a staff member said, noting a recommended allowance of $5,000 for a Union Pacific flagman due to proximity to active rail operations and a $4,000 allowance for additional flatwork if needed.
The committee approved forwarding the award to the council consent agenda; staff said they would coordinate detour routes and maintain access during construction.
