Council committee approves Dirty Nellies rooftop music with conditions on amplification and end time

The Police Policy & Code Services Committee voted to approve a minor amendment allowing outdoor music on the rooftop deck at Dirty Nellies (18 North Smith Street, District 6) for the summer months. Planning staff described the petitioner
s seeking family-friendly acoustic performers or a DJ, with music to cease no later than 10 p.m.; staff noted that if complaints arise the village could revoke the privilege or restrict DJs.

Council members voiced concern that a DJ could produce loud amplification even when live acoustic performers would not. "But we're gonna allow a DJ, which can play anything — so what's the difference?" said Councilman Kozlowski in questioning the distinction; staff and the petitioner said they expect family-friendly music and will work with nearby condominium owners to address issues. The committee approved the amendment and placed it on the consent agenda for council approval.
