Council advances site-plan review for 107 N. Northwest Highway; safety concerns raised about nearby barricades

The Community and Economic Development Committee reviewed a site-plan ordinance May 2 for Lot 2, 107 North Northwest Highway, approving elevations and site work for the southern lot and forwarding the item to the council's consent agenda.

Staff said the project continues a subdivision approved in 2015 and that the proposed southern lot would be developed as a general retail building. "They're back before you for the south of the lot, the site plan...they're proposing a general retail building," staff said and confirmed the submission meets ordinance requirements. Staff added the owner may later seek special use for a portion of the building.

Councilwoman Miller and other members raised safety concerns about temporary barricades and tight travel conditions near the site. Miller asked whether the village could "facilitate making that a little safer travel," and staff replied they would contact the developer and contractor to review the barricade placement and traffic safety.

Why it matters: the approval advances a downtown redevelopment parcel toward construction while council members pressed staff to ensure pedestrian and vehicular safety around active construction zones. The item was placed on the consent agenda and approved by the council.
