Palatine to formalize intergovernmental agreement for School Resource Officers with District 211

The Administration, Technology and Community Health Committee recommended that the village manager be authorized to execute intergovernmental agreements with District 211 to provide School Resource Officers (SROs) in local schools and to formalize reciprocal reporting requirements.

Staff described the agreement as a formalization of long-standing practice dating to 2001 and said District 211 agreed to pay 75% of two officers and 100% of a third. The reciprocal reporting provisions respond to changes in federal and state law that require certain information be shared by schools and law enforcement.

Why it matters: the agreement standardizes the SRO program across Palatine, Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg and clarifies funding responsibilities and reporting duties. The committee moved the item to the consent agenda and the council recorded its approval by roll call later in the meeting.
