Council member raises weed and maintenance concerns near Town Pump and other parcels

Council member Christine Manicucci said she has received several calls from residents about tall weeds in the heat around a parcel between Albertsons and the Town Pump and asked whether the city could take enforcement action to have the weeds cut.

"I've had several calls about weeds that are getting very high in the heat, especially behind the Town Pump… and wondered if it's in the city or not, and how can we get them to cut the weeds before they catch fire?" Manicucci asked. City Manager Neil said the parcel is in city limits, is owned by Town Pump, and that staff has sometimes pushed property owners to mow or else have the city mow and bill the owner. He said the city's current ordinance is broad (the whole parcel) and staff have discussed refining the code to specify a distance back from the centerline to make enforcement more practicable.

Manicucci asked staff to follow up; Neil said code enforcement and the police chief have been addressing similar parcels and that the city will continue monitoring and pushing property owners when needed.
