Commission issues election reminder, schedules budget hearings and announces listening sessions

The chair reminded citizens that early voting is available (Saturday hours noted) and encouraged participation in the upcoming primary election. He confirmed the commission will hold three court budget hearings on Aug. 10 (Judge Johnson, circuit court clerk and juvenile budgets) and that the regular commission meeting is scheduled for Aug. 13; commissioners noted there will be no meeting on Aug. 20 due to attendance at a state fair event.

The chair also previewed a series of public listening posts the commission plans to host in August and September to hear community concerns; he emphasized these are listening-only sessions with no votes planned. In presenting county context the chair highlighted agriculture metrics from a county report: Christian County ranks sixth in the state for hay production, with roughly 3,793 agricultural jobs, $348,400,000 in agricultural sales, and 1,137 family farm operations — figures the chair said illustrate agriculture’s ongoing importance to the county economy.

Commissioners encouraged residents to check the county website for board term listings and to participate in listening sessions and upcoming elections.
