Lynwood Fire Department to begin Advanced Life Support ambulance service March 16, pending inspections

Fire Chief LaShaun Alston told trustees the Lynwood Fire Department is scheduled to begin Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulance service on March 16, 2026 "pending successful completion of the required inspections by IDPH and South Cook County EMS." "This is a major milestone for our department and our community," the chief said.

The department provided a call breakdown for the reporting period: 131 total calls, including 102 medical calls (77.86 percent), five fire calls, three hazardous situations, 11 public service calls and 10 instances with no emergency. Chief Alston thanked those who helped make the ALS transition possible and noted the department’s plans for expanded pre-hospital care capabilities, including advanced airway management and cardiac monitoring.

Trustees recorded the report; no board vote was required to note the department’s operational timeline.
