Henniker residents and police press for sidewalks, flashing crosswalks and lower speeds near New England College

Officer Rachel Lacombe of the Henniker Police Department urged more sidewalks and improved lighting near New England College and downtown business areas, and reported recent on-scene responses that suggest collisions are occurring more frequently than the dataset indicates. “In the last 3 weeks, I've responded to a major accident at that intersection,” she said, and noted at least three major accidents this year at a four-way intersection by the pharmacy.

Longtime residents echoed that testimony. Grace Cohen described multiple problem crossings and said the town needs more flashing crosswalks and better sightlines near the post office and college. “Somebody's gonna get killed there,” Cohen said, urging project staff to drive the corridor slowly and observe real-world behavior before finalizing designs.
