Council hears motion urging elected officials to reject subsidies for nuclear energy

Kevin Jones proposed a motion asking the council to urge King County and state and federal legislators to reject tax preferences, subsidies and policies that support the nuclear industry in Washington. He argued nuclear power fails to deliver on timeliness, affordability and safety and said the preferred alternatives are renewable systems such as wind, solar and geothermal.

Jones' motion was seconded and members opened brief technical discussion and requests for follow‑up; no final vote on the motion was recorded during the meeting. Jones said "Vashon Mori islanders want safe, affordable, timely, non emitting, reliable, and sustainable energy generation and energy storage systems," and asked that the council act by sending the proposed position to elected officials.
