Rotary plans May 16 'epic day of service' to remove tires from Vashon beaches

The council heard an announcement asking the community to help map and remove hundreds of tires found on local beaches ahead of the Rotary's "epic day of service" scheduled for May 16 at Jensen Point Park.

A participant identified at the meeting as Steve (speaker 9) asked for community assistance locating 127 beach tires visible at low tide and said volunteers should report locations and, if possible, transport recovered tires to Jensen Point. "So we ask everyone's help to identify where they are and help us dig them up and get them off the beach," the speaker said.

Organizers said they are cataloging tire locations and directed volunteers to the event website and the Rotary's pages for details about time and staging. The event organizers requested that people email identified locations or use the event's web form if they cannot transport tires themselves.
