Q&A: Palatine council says alcohol hours subject to liquor licenses; no outdoor entertainment or pets initially

During public questions, the council clarified several operational details for businesses preparing to open outdoor dining.

Richard Mayer, a reporter, asked whether alcohol could be served at 7 a.m. if outdoor dining began at that hour. Staff replied that alcohol service must follow each business's liquor license: "It should be whatever their liquor license allows," Mike said. On outdoor entertainment, councilors recommended no outdoor amplified entertainment initially and suggested live performers seek special-use approval; acoustic background music that complies with the sound ordinance is likely acceptable.

On pets, the council confirmed dogs are not allowed in outdoor dining areas under existing rules. On restrooms, staff said the governor's order permits patrons to use interior restrooms provided establishments implement distancing and flow controls.

Council members said they would reconsider entertainment allowances after a week or two of monitoring, and staff will include these clarifications in the toolkit distributed to businesses.
