Council backs plan to expand capacity at Barb's Precious Rescue

The council's committee recommended approval of a planned development amendment that would allow Barb's Precious Rescue to add floor space at 313 N. Quentin Road and increase the facility's capacity. Planning staff and the planning commission recommended the amendment; the petitioner, Barb Weber, told the committee the rescue has taken in over 850 cats and aims to expand to accept more animals from the Palatine Township area.

"We have rescued over 850 cats, and we have adopted out 80% of those," Barb Weber said while requesting an increase in capacity from 100 to 250 cats. Staff noted parking, volunteer hours and a limit on unsupervised outdoor dogs; with planning commission support the item was placed on the council's consent agenda.
