The Police Policy & Code Service Committee reported an ordinance to the full council that would grant a special use and a parking variation for a proposed restaurant at 218–220 North Northwest Highway (District 6). Staff said a restaurant historically occupied the space and the new operator proposes roughly 2,000 square feet of dining area plus about 1,200 square feet of ancillary retail; because the site currently provides 18 parking spaces and code requires 26 for the combined uses, a parking variation is necessary.
Staff noted the Zoning Board of Appeals recommended approval (5–1) and described neighborhood concerns about spillover parking. The planner suggested the petitioner consider shared‑parking agreements with nearby properties or referral to the Traffic Committee if complaints follow. Petitioner Rich Schweigel told the committee his peak hours will not overlap with a neighboring Starbucks and said some employees carpool; “I don't think it's gonna be a problem,” he said. The committee placed the item on the consent calendar for council action.
