Council committee approves 'Beat Lung Cancer' 5K with sound waiver and partial road closure

The Fire Policy and Community Information Committee reviewed a request from the Midtown Athletic Club to hold the 'Beat Lung Cancer' 5K at the Midtown Athletic Club location and asked staff about specifics of amplified sound and partial roadway closure. Staff explained the event will request a partial closure of Hicks Road and will require IDOT approval for that closure; staff recommended approval including a waiver to the village's amplified-sound ordinance. The committee voted in favor and the chairman said the item will be placed on the council's consent agenda.

The committee's action allows the event organizers to pursue required outside approvals and to proceed with operational planning in coordination with village staff.
