District leaders asked the board to use Oregon Department of Education's allowable postponement to delay the K'12 social studies instructional materials adoption for one year so staff can focus on multi-tiered systems of support, attendance work, and recently adopted literacy and math materials.
"I move that the Westland Wilsonville School District or School Board postpone the adoption process of k through 12 social studies instructional materials until the 2728 school year," a director moved on the record. Directors said teachers are already stretched by multiple adoption processes and supported the postponement unanimously.
Staff noted the district will continue to make supplemental social studies materials available for teachers and students and that updated standards from ODE are already posted and may be referenced by teachers during the postponement.
